MathFaculty. 09.32am
Today we are learning about Rational (Fractional) Indices and Exponential Equations. It is taken from the Mathematics for year 10 5th edition by Haese & Harris Publications.
__________
Rational (Fractional) Indices
Let me write in simple sentence.
In general, we define a ^ (1/n) = nth root of a.
So, if we have 32 ^ (1/2) = 2th root of 32
then the answer will be 2 ^ (5/2) = 4.sqrt(2).
Easy right? he3.
__________
Exponential Equations
If a ^ x = a ^ k, then x = k.
i.e. if the base numbers are the same, we can equate indices.
Let say, we have 3 ^ (x+2) = 1/27, then
3 ^ (x+2) = 1/(3 ^ 3)
3 ^ (x+2) = 3 ^ (-3)
x + 2 = -3
x = -5
Easy too! hi3.

Keep on math-ing kids!
